Missions Trips: A Great Way to Experience and Encounter God

by Jeff Williams

A growing number of people are finding that going on a Short-term Missions Trip helps deepen their spiritual life. As recently as thirty years ago, missions was the province of a dedicated, elite corps of Christians. However, today's reduced travel costs and enhanced communications have opened up a world of missions opportunities to laymen everywhere.

I'm a case in point. I had been teaching a Sunday Bible study to high school students at Johnson's Ferry Baptist Church in Marietta. My daughter was a freshman and my wife was involved with the youth department. When they both decided to go, I felt I should go, primarily to accompany them.

I was motivated by a sense of guilt and obligation. I felt guilty because spring break for me had always been a time to relax, to play golf and tennis, to go to the beach. EXPOSE yourself to opportunities to encounter God and experience a passionate relationship with Him; as you're EQUIPPED to see the world through God's eyes and seek to discover His mission for your life; and you're ENLISTED to respond to God's call within the context of your life.

Step out of your comfort zone… This a great opportunity to serve, grow, plant spiritual fruit, and minister side-by-side with others. Join your brothers in Christ as you serve a lost and dying world through a ministry experience of home construction and evangelism. Come share together with other women to share God's love around the world through an intimate time of serving and building meaningful relationships. Amazing opportunities for you to strengthen your family bond in ways you never imagined. Deepen relationships and build memories that last.
