(9/1/2005) As the tragedy of hurricane Katrina’s aftermath unfolds, AIM staff are praying about what our response should be. AIM staff member Bill Britton reports:

Atlanta, GA |
Early Wednesday morning, I heard on the radio that "refugees" from the hurricane-ravaged areas were pouring into Atlanta.
I felt the Lord telling me that we needed to help.
I got with the team of AIM interns doing training in Atlanta and we prayed. We asked the Lord to show us where we could best minister. After praying, Cory said that the Lord showed him a large clock, Vanessa said God gave her a vision of a multi-level building.
We had a number of connections with the Salvation Army, so we drove to their office. When we arrived, the first thing we noticed was that the architecture of one of the buildings in the complex was multi-level. As we approached that building we saw a large 4-sided clock. We knew we were on the right track. Inside, the first two ladies we encountered were receptionist/operators and they were a bit frazzled. They directed us to the church office across the parking lot.
We had the group pray while Ben, Dave and I went in the office.
When we explained to the receptionist that we had 16 missionaries ready to help, she nearly cried.
She picked up a set of already printed Mapquest directions on the desk in front of her. She said, “Go to the distribution center in Lawrenceville, they are desperate for help!” So, we loaded up and drove off.
When we arrived at the center, the lobby was full and the atmosphere was chaotic. We explained who we were and why we were there and
were immediately put to work. For the rest of the afternoon, we sorted food (about 200 cases) then made up about 200 distribution boxes to be given out to those in need. In addition, we had a opportunity to minister to several families who were both thankful and distressed at their loss at the same time. It was a blessing!!
This morning, the team returned to the Salvation Army to man telephones, minister to people and again sort and distribute food.
It was great to see the way God directed the team.
