Last Day of Work...Bittersweet 5

7/16/2010  By: Nicole Dykstra
Central Baptist-  Sioux City, Iowa

Our team has learned so much in these last few days! Last night we attended a service at the church we are working for and it was really neat to seeing the Costa Ricans express their love for Christ through loud prayer, singing, and dancing. The three teams here have been bonding more and more through card games, playing around on the church drums/guitars/piano, and just hanging out during meals and at night! Some neat experiences that me and my group have had lately include: being offered oranges from the house of a kind local, bringing clothing material to the home of a mother of ten (and seeing the poverty of the neighborhood she lived in), witnessing to many locals and having at least four accept Christ in front of us, and playing an intense soccer game with the Costa Ricans from the church and beating them!(not really, they were a club team and we stopped keeping score after a while.) Tomorrow is our sightseeing/beach day and we are very excited! I am sad to be leaving this beautiful country in three days.

Prayer Walk 4

7/15/2010  By: Eric Friend
Village Church-  Gurnee, IL

Two days ago, we went on a prayer in the morning. We approached many houses but it wasn't until about an hour of praying and walking that we really connected with one couple, that eventually invited us in to their home. It didn't take long to realize that both of these people had health conditions. We learned that they both have heart conditions and both have pace makers in. We believe this couple was walking with the Lord and it was incredible to see there trust in God even through the hardships they had faced.

Goin' Bananas for Jamaica 2

Rachel Devine- This trip has been amazing so far, God has been at work at so many places in Costa Rica and it has only been the first 2 days! The work at the construction site is going so well, almost all of the concrete has been mixed and put down and the roof has been put on, it's so awesome to see the finished product and Gods hands of work. God has blessed us with the a great amount of energy and had kept everyone well and healthy which is definitely a good thing haha. Well, not only has the construction been going well but the evangelism around Costa Rica has been been awesome; it is so interesting listening to these people talk about their lives, one woman i met has 15 kids! She was such a strong woman, I could have talked to her that whole day. So many of the women i talked to just kept saying how thankful they were to have people come pray for them and care about them. It was such an encouragement to hear that from them. Today is another day of evangelism at the clinic, I can not wait to see what God has in store for today and the rest of the week!

Ben Catus - Hey mom and dad, things are going great down here in Costa Rica. Everyone here is so open to hear the Word of God. They're awfully friendly too. No one has gotten sick or hurt yet. It's been raining a whole lot, but we've managed to work around that.
I've been enjoying my time and been taking a lot of pictures (since you and my teachers wanted me to). There are so many cool things in Costa Rica, like the mountains and the wild life. I'll see you guys later!

Josh Grant- hey the trips going great so far i am having a lot of fun. Yesterday my evangelism group got to lead someone to Christ which was an amazing thing to do. We are pouring concrete at the local church and extending a roof so that water doesn't come into the kitchen. It is raining a ton everyday we have a big storm at about 4 o'clock. soccer game against the locals tonight...that should be interesting haha.

Sam Nelson- The trip started out kind of dissapointing at first, but then God really just took a hold of my heart and made me realize whats really important here; His Glory. All the things I was looking forward too werent as I had imagined and the things that I didnt really want to do were amazing. Mixing concrete and hauling loads and loads of wet sticky clay turned out to be pretty okay. Well, except for the blisters that is... My church tried doing a sports ministry one afternoon but we got rained out. So much rain. The heat isnt a big deal but its nice to have those cold showers. Notice I said cold..not hot because there's no hot water. I am so excited for the rest of the week and what God has planned for my group and I

---We are all having a great week here with many opportunities to serve. Please be praying for team unity (with the 3 different churches represented coming together as one), spiritual discernment and victory in today's Costa Rica vs US Futbol Game...we'll need it ; ) Thanks for all you prayers -Jim

Central Baptist Update 1

7/13/2010  By: Sandy Sautter, Stomper of dirt
Central Baptist Church-  Sioux City, IA

God is doing amazing things! We have shared the gospel with people in the local park, a medical clinic, and door-to-door. We have been working with Pastor Pablo at Iglesia Dios es Amor (God is Love Church). We have had fun with the children in Vacation Bible School.
It is hot, humid (much worse than Iowa in July)and rainy but we are excited to be here. The people of Costa Rica are very friendly and open to the Gospel. Many let us pray for and with them and some have opened their hearts to God's forgiveness and salvation.
We shared in a worship service tonight with the Ticos (locals) - very awesome to hear praises in songs being raised in Spanish and English simultaneously.
We have also been helping build onto the church - adding a roof to guard from the rain and moving a pile of dirt/clay from one area to another. We literally have been ditch digger, dirt haulers, cement mixers, painters and garbage men. We are tired tonight but feeling blessed.
Continue to pray for us and the people we have opportunity to meet. We are healthy and enjoying the food (beans and rice :)) Thank you for your prayers!
