Ministry Detail

Project Overview:
Ireland’s history has been plagued with war and bloodshed all in the name of religion. Because of that, they equate Christianity, especially Protestant Christianity, with division and hatred. Because of this, most of the modern generation considers themselves “Post-Christian”. We come to introduce them to Jesus – not religion.

Ministry Description:
Your group could be working in any number of cities and partnering with various churches who are seeking to spread the message of Christ in love and unity. Children’s programs, prayer walks and street evangelism are all possible ministries you will be doing. There is also opportunity to help with construction projects on the newly purchased base.

Trip Requirements
- Young adult between the ages of 14 – 18.
- Have been a Christian for at least six months.
- Have a vibrant faith and a desire to share your Christian testimony.
Food & Lodging
You will be lodged with our partner ministry, Operation Mobilization in cabins with mattresses. You may also stay in churches or host homes with the churches you may work with. Bring bedding. A local menu of food is prepared on site, and all drinking water in Ireland is safe.

Location Information
Location Description:
Northern Ireland is a constituent part of the United Kingdom. Of Northern Ireland's 1.6 million population, approximately 41% are Catholic and look to having closer links with the south, while 54% are mainly Protestant and determined to maintain their links with the U.K. Thirty years of violence in Northern Ireland now appear to be nearing an end thanks to a peace agreement between the Irish and British governments and the political parties of Northern Ireland. (Operation World 21st Century Edition)

Ireland is known for its green rolling hills, green shamrocks, and leprechauns in green suits, but the area your team will minister in is one that is spiritually dark. Your team will travel to Dublin, Ireland, where you will live for three months among the poor, desperate, and addicted of Dublin. Dublin is full of big, beautiful churches that are dying due to lack of growth. These empty churches represent the heart of a nation where the majority of people consider Christianity as something their grandparents once did.

Weather:
You will be traveling to Ireland in the beginning of winter, and experience the heart of it while you are there. The wind is extremely biting, and you will need warm clothes, hats, scarves, the works. Even on the cold and rainy days, your team will be walking to ministry. There is no heat in your hostel or apartment, so a warm sleeping bag is also a necessity.

People, Culture and Religion
95% of the population are Irish of Celtic origin. There is freedom of religion in Ireland. The Catholic Church has no official link with the state, though it has a strong, but waning, influence on all aspects of national life. (Operation World, 21st Century Edition)
Statistics
Population:
3,730,239 (Operation World 21st Century Edition)
Literacy Rate:
99%
