| Ministry Detail |
Ministry Description:
Culture and/or State Information An expansive city sitting over a mile high, Mexico City is built on the ruins of Tenochtitlan, the ancient Aztec capital. Also referred to as the Federal District, or D.F., the city boasts the third largest metropolitan area in the world by population. While reminders of past civilizations pervade the city, it is the capital of Mexico, as well its center of commerce, finance and the arts. Visitors to Mexico City will find a cosmopolitan city struggling with the effects of expansion and growth. The rapidly growing population is continually outpacing the efforts of the government to provide services. Despite significant government efforts, poverty in Mexico remains widespread, and is closely linked to high levels of economic inequality. The significant inequality between the country’s rich and poor residents has also stimulated criminal activity, quite often marked by violence. Staggering levels of corruption in the police, judiciary, and government in general have contributed greatly to the crime problem. Due to geographical location, Mexico City’s air quality is extremely poor, and the its water supply is alarmingly polluted with untreated and sewage and industrial waste.
Ministry Description: In partnership with a local church, you will have opportunities to share the truth of Christ with this predominantly Catholic population. Your team will be able to help give hope to the residents of Mexico City who are in despair due to their grim living conditions. Your focus will be on evangelism and relationship building with the locals, who are very welcome and hospitable to outside visitors. Some of the more relational outreaches may include children’s ministry, sports evangelism, participating in a feeding program for the impoverished, and door to door evangelism throughout the community.
Food & Lodging Meals will be provided on site. Lodging will be provided by local churches. Electricity or water may be unreliable. Air mattresses or sleeping bags, bedding, and towels are recommended.
Recommended Prayer - Pray that God would stir the hearts of the residents of Mexico City to take action against the poor conditions in their community. - Pray that God will provide the Mexican people with a sense of hope, despite the overwhelming poverty that surrounds them. - Pray that God will open up opportunities to share his love with the people of Mexico City and soften the hearts of those who have rejected the gospel or might be resistant to your message of hope

| Dress Code & What to Bring
|
|
|
Dress Code:
We do require all trip participants, leaders, and staff to adhere to a dress code on each of our EDGE mission projects. We do this to show respect for God, respect for ourselves, and respect for others. Please help us achieve this goal by teaching your group that our dress code isn’t because we’re extremists, but because we love God, we wish to honor His creation, and we don’t wish to cause others to stumble. You can find specific guidelines in your M101 manual or by contacting your EDGE representative.
