| Ministry Detail |

|
Project Overview:
Sitting at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, the "Mile-High City" has typical inner-city problems: gang-related violence, a large homeless population, prostitution, and drug-dealing, at risk neighborhoods. Many local churches and ministries are working together to reach out to their community with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Your team will be partnering with these groups.
Ministry Description:
Creative options for ministry in Denver include free car washes, serving coffee and donuts at a bus stop in the morning, children's ministry in a nearby park, VBS at safe house, and homeless assistance missions, outreach through music events, clothing and food distribution, prayer walking, and sports outreach.
Groups should come prepared with performance and ministry skills such as dramas, testimonies, singing, mime, puppets, and teaching. Programs can be presented in detention centers, homeless shelters, parks, the 16th Street Mall, and other open-air venues.
Groups could assist with clean up and renovation of an outreach center. This center offers language assistance, tutoring, mothers of pre-schoolers classes, prayer and support.

| Dress Code & What to Bring
|
|
|
Dress Code:
We do require all trip participants, leaders, and staff to adhere to a dress code on each of our EDGE mission projects. We do this to show respect for God, respect for ourselves, and respect for others. Please help us achieve this goal by teaching your group that our dress code isn’t because we’re extremists, but because we love God, we wish to honor His creation, and we don’t wish to cause others to stumble. You can find specific guidelines in your M101 manual or by contacting your EDGE representative.

| Location Information
|
|
Location Description:
The Rocky Mountain state of Colorado, with an average elevation of 6,800 feet, is the highest of all the states. Rugged mountains and plateaus occupy two-thirds of the area. In contrast, eastern Colorado has flat, treeless plains that extend from the Rockies to the Nebraska and Kansas state lines.
Denver, the state's capital, is a beautiful city at the base of the Rockies.
Weather:
Although Colorado's summers are hot, they are generally not uncomfortable because of the low relative humidity. Summer nights are cool. The average high in July is 88°F and the average low is 59°F. Annual precipitation measures 15.4 inches.
Area Attractions:
There is much to do and see in the Denver Metro area: ride the wild roller coasters at Elitche Gardens, have a picnic and volleyball game at Washington Park, tour the Denver Mint or Historical Museum, hike to a lake in the mountains, or ride the Alpine Slide in Winter Park.

Cheyenne and Arapaho visited the Denver area for decades before the first white trappers and explorers passed by the site. Word of the discovery of gold in 1850 by a California-bound group eventually resulted in the arrival of a party of prospectors in 1858. The news spread, beginning the “Pikes Peak or Bust” gold rush. Two little settlements, Denver and Auraria, grew near the gold discoveries. They merged and incorporated as the city of Denver in 1860.
During the war, Denver was referred to as the nation’s “second capital” because of its concentration of federal facilities. Manufacturers geared up to produce war materials, and important military installations were built near the city. (encarta.msn.com/encyclopedia)
Many Coloradoans descend from immigrants of the British Isles. There are numerous people of Spanish and Mexican descent, and African Americans have been living in Colorado since the first gold rush. In the 1970s there was a considerable influx of Vietnamese immigrants. About one-quarter of all church members in the state are Roman Catholic. The three largest Protestant denominations are Baptist, Methodist, and Lutheran.
