Project Overview:
On August 15th at 6:40 p.m., a magnitude 8.0 earthquake struck Peru. The epicenter was in the Pacific Ocean, just off the coast, about 95 miles south of Lima, Peru’s largest city.
The coastal cities, Pisco and Chincha, as well as the larger nearby city of Ica were hardest hit. As this description is being written (about 18 hours after the initial event) the death toll has been revised to over 450 persons. According to an AP News report, the U.S. Geological Survey says there have been at least 15 aftershocks with some as strong as magnitude 6.3.
On August 15th, Catholics celebrate the Feast of the Assumption. Many Peruvians were attending church services when the quake hit. With tears streaming down his face, the Mayor of Pisco told reporters of 200 people being buried underneath the rubble of a collapsed church. Seventeen were reported killed in a church collapse in Chincha.
As the first reports reached us, AIM began planning how we might be most helpful. The magnitude of this natural disaster and the fact that we have a base in Lima prompts us to believe that these circumstances present us with a significant Kingdom opportunity. We have contacts in Chincha, one of the hardest hit cities, and are presently exploring what shape of project would be of greatest benefit.
Ministry & Outreach:
AIM would love to send down you down to volunteer to help out with the needs in Peru. We will help provide food and lodging and connect you with local ministries. We do ask that you help with local gas and transportation. Right now the major need is demolition and helping clean up the mess that was left with the earthquake. Come prepared for dirty hard work. The cost will be $350 during the dates below and this does not include your transportation to Lima (LIM). Payments must be paid in full upon completion of the initial application/registration for the trip – at least 7 days prior to the trip start date.

| Dress Code & What to Bring
|
|
|
Dress Code:
We do require all trip participants, leaders, and staff to adhere to a dress code on each of our EDGE mission projects. We do this to show respect for God, respect for ourselves, and respect for others. Please help us achieve this goal by teaching your group that our dress code isn’t because we’re extremists, but because we love God, we wish to honor His creation, and we don’t wish to cause others to stumble. You can find specific guidelines in your M101 manual or by contacting your EDGE representative.
