Ministry Detail

Project Overview:
Ike did not cut the wide path of destruction that Hurricane Katrina did in Louisiana three years ago but the damage where Ike did come ashore was every bit as bad. The major difference between someone who lost everything in Ike and someone who lost everything in Katrina is that one lives in Texas and the other lives in Louisiana/Mississippi.
There are needs in Texas, needs that are not being reported on the nightly news any longer but they are there and very real. AIM and our partners in the region will help participants meet those needs and, more importantly, share the love of Christ with those who are hurting.
When participants come to the Texas coast, they will get the chance to help people and build relationships. As with the aftermath of Katrina, there are those who need someone to talk to and someone to come along side them for extra help and encouragement.

Ministry Description:
Participants should come to Texas ready to serve and pitch in where needed. Ministry could involve food distribution, roofing, cleaning out houses (removal of sheetrock to removal of deep mud), sheet rocking, roofing, etc. Physical labor will be a large part of the trip at least initially. Other, purely relational, ministries are definitely possible. Those opportunities will increase with time. At present, most relational ministry will take place while working alongside a homeowner as you help them clean out their house or rebuild.

Dress Code & What to Bring
Dress Code:
We do require all trip participants, leaders, and staff to adhere to a dress code on each of our EDGE mission projects. We do this to show respect for God, respect for ourselves, and respect for others. Please help us achieve this goal by teaching your group that our dress code isn’t because we’re extremists, but because we love God, we wish to honor His creation, and we don’t wish to cause others to stumble. You can find specific guidelines in your M101 manual or by contacting your EDGE representative.

Travel Information
Airport & Transportation:
Houston is about an hour and a half west of the Louisiana/Texas border on I-10. Though that is the central location and where initial travel plans should be calculated to and from, the mission trip could be at any point along the Texas coast between Galveston and Bridge City depending on area need and partner relationships. Participants should stay in contact with their AIM contact to be informed of final driving directions. Houston is the best location for air travel and there are two airports that service the area, Hobby and Intercontinental.
