Location Information
Location Description:

Nashville, the capital of Tennessee, is the second most populous city in the state after Memphis. Of the over 600,000 people living in the Nashville and Davidson county area, approximately 20 percent of them live below the federal poverty line, This translates into an income of less that $21,834 a year for a family of four to survive. The city has a 30% high school drop out rate. It is estimated that Nashville has a homeless population of over 3,000. People are struggling, and not just to “make it big.”

Nashville, also known as Music City USA, is a crossroads of different cultures and lifestyles. With frequent drifters that pass through the area, it is home to many urban ministries and homeless shelters. As you minister in Nashville, your group will see what homelessness is like for men, women, and even children as you partner with these groups. While there are certainly those within the city who need Jesus, the focus of AIM’s ministry in Nashville is working with the homeless and less fortunate. Building relationships by sharing lunch or a cup of cold water has been very effective.

Dress Code:

We do require all trip participants, leaders, and staff to adhere to a dress code on each of our EDGE mission projects. We do this to show respect for God, respect for ourselves, and respect for others. Please help us achieve this goal by teaching your group that our dress code isn’t because we’re extremists, but because we love God, we wish to honor His creation, and we don’t wish to cause others to stumble. You can find specific guidelines in your M101 manual or by contacting your EDGE representative.
