Project Leader Information
Questions:
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to Joe Rogers at 800-881-2461 ext. 235.
Required Training
Project Leader classroom training is a
required course. It is a requirement of even the most experienced AIM Project Leaders that we
all attend a minimum of one class training session a year, every year.
In these classes, we can share some hard-earned lessons and help craft sensible solutions to difficult field problems. Old Hands, we need your stories, scenarios, problems, and solutions! Our sessions are (to borrow from Pablo Van Der Werf) Socratic-they include a lot of discussion time where wisdom can be shared and serious issues addressed.
Your Support Staff
Adventures In Missions' ability to field outstanding mission projects depends in large measure on the availability and quality of our volunteer staff. Good staff assistance, not just warm bodies, can materially improve our ability to achieve our mission to see project participants become home missionaries. To ensure project excellence, AIM has developed the following standards and requirements for volunteer staff:
- High School Graduate and Minimum 18 Years of Age - If an immediate graduate or underage, the project leader proposing the person as staff will have to provide written justification for their inclusion to AIM's Project Staff Coordinator. Upon approval, the proposed staff person can attend the project.
- Competency - Mission project staff are to be competent in the area of operations in which they are to work.
See Project Support Staff for specific support staff roles.
Paperwork
Prior to departure for the field, all required documentation must be on file
with the Project Staff Coordinator in AIM's Gainesville office. This includes
a completed two-page application, reference form, and a copy of the notarized medical release.
Click here to retrieve the necessary forms.
Medical Release: We need a new medical release every year. If you are 19
or older and not currently under the care of a doctor, you need not get a physical
or the doctor's signature. The original stays with you during the project and someone
else should know where it is in case of emergency.
Children of Staff
There must be a plan of supervision, approved by AIM's Project Staffing Coordinator, for all children of staff attending a mission project. They will be charged at the same rate as the volunteer.
Making Travel Plans
When scheduling your project, please remember to plan to arrive the Wednesday or Thursday before the project begins so you will have time to meet with the other project staff during the final planning and preparations. Be sure AIM (HQ in Gainesville) have your travel itinerary well in advance of your arrival date so you won't be a surprise (translated "abandoned").
Required Reading for AIM Project Leaders
Preparation for project leadership for Adventures In Missions includes reading several short books. These will provide important, perhaps even eye-opening, information. They will encourage and enable you. Please take this portion as seriously as you do the other elements of your preparation.
