A Day in the Life of a World Racer

The World Race is more than a mission trip – it’s about living life on mission.

We’re often asked, “What do you actually do on the Race?”

Every day on the World Race looks a little different. Some days are packed full with sharing the Gospel, construction, Vacation Bible School, building relationships with orphans, or praying for the sick at a hospital. Some days are a bit slower — shopping for groceries at the market, cooking for your team, and spending time praying for the community you walk through. Much depends on our ministry partners’ needs in each country and specifically during the team’s month with them. Regardless of the pace or the activity, every day is focused on being a part of God’s Kingdom work.

This video below shows a day in the life of one of our current World Racers, Will. Will takes us along for a day while he serves with our international base in Antigua, Guatemala.

World Race teams come alongside local ministry partners and join in what they are doing to further bring the gospel to the local community. Here’s an overview of the ministries we partner with in certain regions of the world:

If you feel the same way, now is the perfect time to apply for our World Race: Gap Year 2019 Routes!

Central and South America

  • In Guatemala, a lush rainforest nation, you will come alongside local believers and likely spend your days building relationships with at-risk youth.
  • In Costa Rica, the main focus of ministry for Racers will be partnering with local churches to share the Gospel with rural communities, especially in impoverished border towns.

  • In Ecuador, overall your time will focus around building relationships and sharing your hope and joy in Christ with everyone you meet along the way.

Southern Africa

  • In Swaziland, we partner with Children’s Hope Chest to operate a large system of care points serving local orphaned and underserved children.

  • In South Africa, you might find yourself discipling middle and high school students through sports ministry, teaching life skills or assisting with academic classes.

South and Southeast Asia

  • In India, a colorful and bustling nation, you may became part of the local culture as you travel from village to village preaching and praying for families.

  • In Cambodia, where the nation is still struggling to heal from a dark and crippling genocide in the 1970s, you’ll likely spend your month reaching children through teaching English and the Bible.

  • In Thailand, home to world-famous beaches and open air food markets, you will serve alongside our international base at Zion Hostel.
