I used to wonder “How do I live a life of purpose?” Can you relate?
The World Race was a catalytic year that changed the trajectory of my life forever. I developed a deeper relationship with God, built lasting friendships, and received firsthand experience on how to make a difference in the world. Today, my team and I have the privilege of leading hundreds of people on Semesters (one of the fastest-growing programs in our organization!) We’ll be your guides as you discover God’s plans are bigger than you ever dreamed. During your trip, our trained leadership team will share how to read the Bible and apply it as you serve and build relationships and live in an authentic Biblical community.
The Semesters Route 1 journey empowers you to:
1. Grow with God
Witness God moving through the ministries and people you serve. Rely on His strength to fuel your days and His voice to lead the way.
2. Find Community
Discover how to be the church, and love each other while living and serving together in Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua.
3. Make a Difference
Reach new heights in your faith as you show God’s love in tangible ways. You may find yourself playing soccer with neighborhood kids, doing outreach to local villages, or building relationships with kids on Lake Nicaragua.
FOCUS:Kids Ministry, Community Outreach, Ministry in Local Schools, Sports Ministry
Your Semesters trip begins in Guatemala, a nation rich in indigenous history and natural beauty. With landscapes of active volcanoes dotted with coffee farms around you, you will see God transform the community of Chichicastenango through the ministry of Juan Peliz at New Generation Centroamerica. You’ll play soccer with local kids and share about Jesus with the local policemen. You may even get to share stories from the Bible in local schools, all while enjoying the hospitality and beauty of this Central American nation.
Meet the Peliz family from New Generation Centroamerica
Juan Peliz is the founder of New Generation Centroamerica. He and his wife Evelyyn Maldonado serve the community through a food, sports, and after-school program in Chichicastenango, Guatemala. Their vision is to reach, equip, and send young people around the world to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ. While serving with them, you may be involved in kids ministry, youth and community outreach, preaching in schools, playing soccer, assisting with construction projects, and teaching English.
Soon you’ll head onto Honduras, where God is doing a mighty work even amidst a broken past of violence and drug trafficking. Through our ministry partner Hope at Hand, you will work alongside many local ministries that are serving the community of Valle de Angeles. You may spend time serving at a home for adults with special needs, or working with other local ministries that are serving local children. No matter what you do, you’ll enjoy the friendship of Scarleth and David Jones, who are passionate about seeing God transform Honduras.

FOCUS:Kids Ministry, Manual Labor, Discipleship, Teaching English
Your Semesters journey ends in Nicaragua. Though a rocky political history has left some areas of this nation impoverished, God is doing a powerful work through the local body of Jesus followers here. Surrounded by the beautiful blue waters of Lake Nicaragua, you will serve alongside one of our partners on the land mass of two active volcanoes known as Ometepe Island. Here you’ll build relationships with the local community as you serve alongside CICRIN to support the children of this isolated island community.
You’ll create a profile and complete a questionnaire application and then schedule a phone interview with our team so we can get to know you better. After that, we’ll let you know when you’ve been accepted!
Step 2: Fundraise
Once you’ve confirmed your spot, we will pair you with an Admissions Advisor who will help you with planning, fundraising ideas, and all the logistical information you need to prepare.
Step 3: Train
You will spend the first few days of your trip at our campus in Georgia, training, worshiping and bonding with your teammates before you leave.
Step 4: Launch
You will fly out with your team from the Atlanta airport and begin your semester on mission.
How We Support You
A large part of this journey is growing in your walk with Christ. We desire to model the way Jesus discipled his followers. Mentors, coaches, and fellow Racers will disciple you, while you serve, love, and disciple others.
You’ll spend the first few days of your trip at a training camp here at World Race headquarters in North Georgia.
You’ll get to experience raw Christian community as you travel, serve, and encourage each other. Once you officially join the Race, you will be invited to a private Facebook group to begin getting to know your squad.
We’ll provide coaching, video tutorials, scripts, and ideas for fundraising plus a free fundraising course and a blog so you can tell your story and accept donations. We also have structured deadlines to help you reach your goal.
Our commitment to risk management includes internal and external teams who constantly monitor and manage risk and create contingency plans as needed.
