FOCUS:Homeless Ministry, Drug Rehabilitation Ministry, Kids Ministry
Your first stop on your Semesters journey will be in Medellin, a vibrant city with a dark history of drug trafficking and violence. Here you will serve alongside our ministry partner, Ciudad Refugio, who is bringing hope and restoration to the people of this city. Surrounded by the beautiful Andes mountains, you’ll have opportunities to share the Gospel with people recovering from drug addiction, join in outreaches for people experiencing homelessness, assist with feeding programs, and lead children’s ministry.
FOCUS:Youth Ministry, Feeding Program, Teaching English, Special Needs Ministry
This small country in South America is bursting with culture, hospitality, and adventure. During your three months in Ecuador, you will live in the capital city Quito surrounded by the green peaks of the Andes mountains. Serve with our ministry partner Inca Link, which is making an impact for God’s kingdom through a network of ministries around the city. One of these ministries is providing a safe house for rescued victims of trafficking, while another is hosting a feeding program that serves Venezuelan refugees. Your team could be serving at a home for adults with special needs, or teaching English at a local high school and sharing the Gospel. No matter what you do, the people of Ecuador will inspire you.
FOCUS:Special Needs Ministry, Local Church Outreach
Your last stop on your Semesters trip will be Peru’s capital, Lima, where you will serve with our ministry partner YWAM Lima as they reach the city. Join them as they serve adults with special needs, support local churches, and share the Gospel with university students. You might help with an English class or preach in a local church, surrounded by the busy pace of city life.
If you haven't already been issued a passport prior to applying for one of our international trips, take note that US passport issuing services are significantly delayed in processing applications. You are more than welcome to apply for one of our trips. However, if you do not get issued a passport by the time we purchase a flight for your trip (around December 1st), you will need to choose a domestic trip option or defer to a later trip.
Spend your semester on mission in South America. You’ll kick off in Ecuador and serve with our ministry partners making an impact for God’s kingdom through a network of ministries around Quito. As safety and travel allows, you'll spend time in Colombia to help bring hope and restoration to the most vulnerable people in the city. And venture to Peru where you will serve adults with special needs, support local churches, and share the Gospel with university students.
Witness God moving through the ministries and people you serve. Rely on His strength to fuel your days and His voice to lead the way.
2. Find Community
Discover how to be the church, and love each other while living and serving together in South America.
3. Make a Difference
In each country you will come alongside our ministry partners to serve the community you will live in. All three ministry partners are well established in their cities and have a wide net of opportunities to serve their community. You will really enjoy learning from these incredible partners as they are really committed to investing in the growth of Racers.
WHAT IF WE HAVE TO CANCEL THIS TRIP DUE TO COVID-19?
We have an experienced risk management team. They monitor political, health, weather, and other risks in the regions where we serve. We continue to confidently plan impactful trips and adjust when necessary. We won’t launch a trip that isn’t up to our standards of safety. In 2020, we canceled our international trips due to safety and travel restrictions with COVID-19 and gave options to our participants to join us domestically or defer to a later date. We currently feel confident launching this trip. If we have to cancel this trip, or you don’t feel comfortable going, the money you’ve raised can be applied to a different or future trip within the next calendar year.
You’ll create a profile and complete a questionnaire application and then schedule a phone interview with our team so we can get to know you better. After that, we’ll let you know when you’ve been accepted!
Step 2: Fundraise
Once you’ve confirmed your spot, we will pair you with an Admissions Advisor who will help you with planning, fundraising ideas, and all the logistical information you need to prepare.
Step 3: Train
You will spend the first few days of your trip at our campus in Georgia, training, worshiping and bonding with your teammates before you leave.
Step 4: Launch
You will fly out with your team from the Atlanta airport and begin your semester on mission.
Ever wonder if there’s more to your faith than what you’re experiencing? I can relate.
I understand how it feels to hear that whisper inside you that there’s got to be more to your faith than what you’re experiencing. That’s why I risked it all, quit my job, sold everything I owned and took off overseas to serve God and His people. I got a taste of the ‘more’ God had for me. 10+ years and 30+ countries later, my team and I now help other young people experience adventurous and purpose-filled moments with God like I had ...one semester at a time.
How We Support You
A large part of this journey is growing in your walk with Christ. We desire to model the way Jesus discipled his followers. Mentors, coaches, and fellow Racers will disciple you, while you serve, love, and disciple others.
You’ll spend the first few days of your trip at a training camp here at World Race headquarters in North Georgia.
You’ll get to experience raw Christian community as you travel, serve, and encourage each other. Once you officially join the Race, you will be invited to a private Facebook group to begin getting to know your squad.
We’ll provide coaching, video tutorials, scripts, and ideas for fundraising plus a free fundraising course and a blog so you can tell your story and accept donations. We also have structured deadlines to help you reach your goal.
Our commitment to risk management includes internal and external teams who constantly monitor and manage risk and create contingency plans as needed.
Our amazing Parent Ministry provides resources and communication so your parents feel supported and informed while you’re on the field.
