Puerto Rico / Youth Mission Trip

An adventure awaits you in Puerto Rico!

Smiling tourists never imagine the truth of life in Puerto Rico.

A commonwealth of the United States, Puerto Rico offers wealthy residents and tourists the comforts of America as well as exotic beaches and a relaxed Caribbean culture.

Sadly, almost half of the population lives below the poverty line, and unemployment always remains high. Most of the Puerto Rican people do not have access to services such as police protection and emergency medical care.

Many families have been torn apart by emigration—almost half of the island’s people have moved to the United States.

For many, it seems poverty, drugs, and crime will be a constant reality for the rest of their lives.

You can share the promise of abundant life in Christ no matter the circumstances (and hope for the future!) with the people of Puerto Rico.

While in Puerto Rico, you will:

  • Build relationships and trade stories with everyone you meet. You’ll learn about Puerto Rican life and can share the love of Jesus with those who might not know Him or encourage someone who already does.
  • Camp Ministry: You will work with Camp Caribe on the beach in Juana Diaz, supporting the ministry, which provides local children the opportunity to have a week-long adventure and a camp experience most cannot afford. Summer camps cannot happen without help from groups working to dramatically improve the facilities so they can better serve campers, rental groups, and other mission teams. You might be doing things like facilities maintenance, painting, light construction work, landscaping, cleaning, etc.
  • Community Outreach: There will probably be opportunities to help with manual labor and building relationships in homes in the nearby barrio. There may also be some opportunities to work with other ministries in the area, such as an after-school center for kids in the barrio, a homeless ministry in Ponce, or a veterans home in Juana Díaz.

Helping these children see beyond the life of the barrio will be instrumental in moving kids and families away from believing cyclical poverty, drugs, and crime are their destiny.

Will you share the love and hope of Jesus with the people of Puerto Rico?
