The City of Brotherly Love is feeling the sting of neglect.
Where history and modern architecture meet, Philadelphia’s reputation for art and culture is unmatched. The city offers more outdoor sculptures and murals than any other American city, and life is returning to some gentrified neighborhoods.
But many areas of Philadelphia continue to struggle.
Close to half the city’s population lives below poverty level. Vast stretches of industrial areas remain abandoned as the area’s economy shifts to focus on financial and information services and businesses move into the more affluent areas of the Delaware Valley.
The local church, stretched far too thin, remains the last hope for the homeless and urban poor.
Join our partners on the streets of Philadelphia to bring hope and comfort to the homeless. Let your heart be softened as you meet them and listen to their stories. Restore their faith in Jesus as you remind them that he cherishes each one of them as individuals.
Encourage and influence inner city youth by offering free sports camps, and share the word of Jesus while shooting hoops or tossing a football.
Meet the physical needs of the community by helping with a variety of service projects from park cleanup to community property maintenance. Give the struggling people of Philadelphia a community they can take pride in.
During your free time, soak in our country’s history at the Liberty Bell or Independence Hall. Run in the footsteps of Rocky Balboa at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, or visit the zoo or the aquarium.
And be sure to eat plenty of cheesesteaks!
The City of Brotherly Love desperately needs the love of Jesus. Will you become that love for the hopeless?
