With nearly a sixth of the world's population, India is home to 29 languages, some of the spiciest food on the planet, and a highly segregated rich and poor class.
Thanks to the ancient caste system, crimes of social injustice, discrimination, forced prostitution, and human trafficking occur daily.
Baby girls are often killed and abandoned, simply because of the financial burden on their families. Lepers are treated as untouchables, and the poorest of the poor live in slums.
Will you share hope with the poor, abandoned, and outcast in India?
Your team will serve in Southern India with one of our strategic ministry partners, Sarah's Covenant Homes.
Part of India Christian Ministries, Sarah's Covenant Homes cares for over 160 special needs children through Southern India. Some children come to SCH simply malnourished; others come with severe disabilities and health challenges. However, no matter where they fall on the spectrum of ability, each and every child who comes through SCH is loved unconditionally, fed, and given a place to sleep, play, and be a kid.
While at SCH, ministry opportunities include:
Administrative Tasks: With over 160 children, keeping up with medical and legal files is a full time job. Simply updating files, transferring information, or other basic administrative tasks is a big help.
Work Projects: From washing walls to installing a swing set, you might be asked to clean, paint, or perform light maintenance around the property. Doing this takes a the weight of a chore off the shoulders of the staff who live and care for these children around the clock.
Relational Ministry: The foster families, missionaries (and their kids), Indian staff (nurses and grandmothers, known as "ayahs), provide for the basic needs of the children. They need to laugh and be encouraged, to have someone share stories with them.
Kids Ministry: Maybe it's joining preschool time on the roof, Circle Time at Jubilee house (for older girls and young adults), or simply holding a baby—you'll be able to share God's love with each child you see. You'll discover that despite any physical or mental disability, each and every child is so full of the ability that really matters: understanding, receiving, and giving love.
This trip is for you if:
You love playing with children, especially ones with special needs
Your heart breaks for the poor and disadvantaged
You enjoy serving alongside ministries reaching their local communities
You love spicy food
You want to grow in your faith while sharing God's love with others.
Will you share God's love in India by loving these precious children?
