In October 2016, Hurricane Matthew roared through the Caribbean and left destruction in its wake. This Category 4 Storm reached upwards of 145mph.
Over 1,000 are dead in Haiti alone. Thousands of homes across the Caribbean and southeastern coast of the United States were destroyed.
This is the first major hurricane Haiti has experienced in 50 years, and the nation is still recovering from the 2010 earthquake. And even before the earthquake, Haiti was the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere.
The rubble of crushed homes still lie in the city streets today, and Hurricane Matthew sent much of what had improved back into ruins. Tent cities are once again sprawling across the country, even in the medians of roads.
The Haitian economy lies in ruins as well. Eighty percent of the population falls under the poverty line, and many rely on foreign aid for food because they do not have enough money. People live in fear of diseases unimaginable to most Americans.
Corruption, crime, and the black market prevent Haiti’s people from working to rebuild the country on their own. False gods and dark religions lure people deeper into darkness.
Haiti needs help. Haiti needs hope.
While in Haiti, ministry opportunities will look like:
Kids Ministry: There are kids everywhere and the opportunities for ministry are endless! From street ministry to VBS and sports ministry, much of your time will be spent with children. From organized VBS programs to kicking a soccer ball, every child you see will be an opportunity to change a life.
Orphan Care: Your team could serve with an orphanage, where you will also play with the kids, but in addition, you'll have an opportunity for service projects.
Community Outreach: Your team might also go door-to-door to meet and share Christ with the sick and the unchurched.
Church Ministry: You might also get to host a church service for the community
NEW* Disaster Relief: Depending on the needs when your team arrives, you might join construction projects, food distribution, or serving other basic needs in response to Hurricane Matthew.
The good news is while the enemy seeks to destroy, Jesus came to bring life. We are ready to share His love alongside our ministry partners in these storm-struck communities. Are you willing to go?
Will you share the love of Jesus with those who feel hopeless in Haiti?
